Sembuwatta lake is located amidst tea plantations in Elkaduwa area in the Matale District.This has recently become very popular among local and foreign tourists. The lake belongs to the Elkaduwa Plantations and it produces electricity for the nearby villagers as well. Sembuwatta Lake is situated adjacent to the Campbell’s Lane Forest Reserve.
The lake is about 30 to 40 feet deep and is not allowed to bathe and swim in the lake.However there’s a separate swimming pool built for those who wish to swim. At Sembuwatta you can enjoy boating , canoeing and you can even do hiking along the surrounding slopes of pine trees and tea plantations , as well as adventurous activities such as cable-hiking over the lake. And for those who want to stay overnight, condos and camping facilities are here. Tickets for these activities are sold separately and a ticket must be purchased to enter the premises.
Due to its mild climate and pleasant weather, Sembuwatta is a perfect place to relax. Most of the foreign tourists who come here to enjoy the beauty of the place are from Arabs. The place has become famous among wedding photo shooters as well as teledrama producers.
Sembuwatta lake is about 31Km from Kandy town if you take wattegama Elkaduwa road. Sembuwatta lake is one of the travel location to add you travel diary. We should all act to protect the scenic environment so that the beauty of the place is reserved for the next generation.
